The 'team'
Phil, Thaao & Tony
Here Thaao recounts the initial interview for the part.
"I had such a week. I was tested by Paramount and then by ABC. I love the role because this character has so many facets. In two days of auditioning, I played an accountant, a German Gestapo officer, a 70-year old man and a man on death row.

The competition was incredible. They tested actors both here and in Australia. To me, it felt like winning the lottery.
As I was about to audition for the final time, I remember thinking, 'God, please come through me and let me do this for myself, my mum and my dad.'
I later heard that my performance blew them away. You can't always have your faculties at your fingertips when you go into that kind of element with all those people looking at you. I think I was kind of favoured that day. I felt blessed."
